The Breeze, the local radio station for Cheltenham, is launching the Local Heroes gala awards to recognise amazing individuals in Cheltenham across ten inspiring categories including Parent of the Year, Contribution to the Community, Child of Courage and the Outstanding Bravery Award.

It is an amazing opportunity for The Breeze listeners, residents of Cheltenham and local businesses to pay tribute to the people who make a real difference in our community and celebrate these often unsung heroes.

The gala awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 12 April 2018 at Cheltenham's beautiful Manor By The Lake Hotel. This year, the awards took place in Torquay, South Devon and saw the community come together to recognise some of the most deserving of South Devon's local heroes.

This included Molly Dundas, who won the Young Person of the Year Award. When Molly was 11, her Dad passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. Her mum also has cancer and has been fighting it for 12 years. Because of the huge effects cancer has had on her life, Molly took part in the Race for Life two days after her Dad’s funeral. She completed the walk across Dartmoor to raise funds for Force Cancer Support Centre in Exeter and continues as a member of a music theatre group to raise donations. Despite all the difficulties in her family life, Molly always has a smile on her face and is ready to help anyone that needs it.

Volunteers from St Johns Ambulance South Devon picked up the Emergency Services Award, for giving in excess of 10,000 hours to serving the public. Volunteers are trained from first aiders to emergency medical technicians and their aim is to ensure that no one should die due to the lack of first aid knowledge. These people receive no financial reward for their services but are always on hand to render first aid at one of the many local events they cover.

Don't miss this opportunity to show your support for our community. If you would like further information on how you can be involved with The Breeze Local Heroes Awards 2018, please email Sam McKie at before the end of November.
