INVESTMENT IN OUR TOWN
In our role of representing all business interests in Cheltenham, we are regularly approached by the Borough Council for feedback on proposed investment and expenditure on infrastructure. I’m sure most people will be aware that the Council sold the North Place and Portland Place car parks for £7.8m last year and this sum is to be reinvested in our town. There may also be further funds available to supplement this.
We would appreciate your feedback on how this money should be spent. Suggestions from the Council include:
1 Re-development of the Town Hall - £2.4m
2 Improved gym and changing room facilities at the Leisure@ Centre - £433K
3 Upgrade the buildings and the creation of a new sports and play hub at the Prince of Wales Stadium - £1.8m
4 Boots Corner improvements – new paving, planting - £2m
5 Restoration of Neptunes Fountain - £600K
6 Relocation of Borough Council away from Municipal Offices - £2.5m
7 Re-development of the Crematorium - £5m
8 Replacement of equipment in Pittville Park Play Area - £300K
9 Re-development of all Town Car Parks - £4m
10 Large scale renewable energy initiative – eg solar farm - £8m
Of course, you may have additional suggestions to add to these? Please let me have any feedback by 20th February in time for the Borough Council's budget meetings in March.
