CHATTING AND CHOPPING AT SEA—CHENMOORE CHOPSTICKS
Our member Pamela Chen Moore from ChenMoore Chopsticks did a very unusual gig earlier this year—as a guest speaker on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, the most famous ocean liner in the world.
Pamela’s all about demystifying oriental cookery and Eastern culture, and this was perfect for the Enrichment Programme for the Far East section of QM2’s World Voyage. Pamela joined QM2 in Hong Kong and toured the Far East for two weeks. In ‘Illuminations’, the 500-seat auditorium that is also the only planetarium at sea, she delighted the audience with three lectures on Eastern culture and three cookery oriental cookery demonstrations—which were all recorded and constantly repeated on QM2’s own TV channel on board, for the guests who were not able to make the live lectures & demonstrations.
Pamela describes the experience as “rather surreal at times”: being called for a TV interview within an hour of boarding the ship was a novelty start, regularly seeing herself on QM2’s own TV channel took some getting used to, and the book-signing sessions and regularly being stopped by guests who wanted to talk to her was certainly new. To top it all, Pamela was listed as a guest chef, with two recipes from her recipe book made it onto the menu in QM2’s Britannia Restaurant! Following that was, of course, more happy guests wanting to talk to her about the delicious dishes!!
The feedback from the audience and Cunard were excellent, and Pamela is now in the process of booking with Cunard for the 2018 season as a ‘preferred speaker’. There are various sea-related conversations going on at the moment, as well as guest speaking opportunities. 2017 is looking to be a very exciting year for Pamela!
